Munich, 01.02.2023 - The law firm Gerloff Liebler Rechtsanwälte , Munich, which specializes in insolvencies and restructurings, has achieved a sales success in the insolvency proceedings of Kalera GmbH. An agreement was concluded with the Dutch Growy Holding BV, which provides for the acquisition of the essential assets of the vertical farming company in an asset deal.

These are a fully automated farm already in operation in Kuwait and a farm under construction in Singapore. Growy, an operator of highly automated vertical indoor farms based in Amsterdam, has announced that it will acquire Kalera's core teams and continue its heavily research-focused operations at the two sites. Vertical farming is an industry of the future that aims to enable sustainable agriculture and mass production of crop and livestock products in multi-story buildings using new technologies such as robotics and machine learning.

Kalera GmbH, headquartered in Munich, belongs to the listed US-based Kalera Group. The German group company, which does not operate any vertical farming activities in Germany, had filed for insolvency on November 25, 2022. Regular proceedings were opened on January 19, 2023; the Munich Local Court appointed attorney Dr. Christian Gerloff as insolvency administrator.

Dr. Christian Gerloff comments: "Vertical farming is considered one of the markets of the future to ensure the growing demand for healthy and sustainable products, especially in cities and urban centers. I am all the more pleased that we were able to find an experienced strategic investor in only a short time who wants to continue the operational activities of the German Kalera company."
